In a world of new and cool F&B concepts emerging every day, it is sometimes comforting to go back to basics!
I recently took some visitors to dinner at BOFINGER Brasserie, in the 20th district of Paris, near Bastille square : classical example of an early 20th Century Parisian Brasserie, with professional, kind service.
On the menu : fresh oysters, seafood platters, choucroutes, onion soup, great fish options, rum baba, tatin tart, crêpes Suzette….
Although the two floor restaurant was packed, service was agile and friendly, a platter of oysters was served to us, which was perfect accompaniment for the Sancerre bottle that chilled in the ice bucket near our table…
The rest of the meal was equally enjoyable, choucroutes (classical with pork sausages, and a seafood version) and given the generous portions we agreed we’d come back at another time to try the Baba served with Martinique Rhum, and other mouth watering sweet delights.
If you travel to Paris, want authentic French cuisine, quality ingredients, professional service, for a decent price (€50 per person average check, including wine), and a good show (waiters still practice the art of flambéing, which is becoming rare even in Paris), Bofinger is highly recommended.
