Summer is on its way, and Parisian “perchoirs” (rooftop bars and restaurants) are high on the travellers’ (and residents too!) list again, especially those offering outdoor facilities.
Restaurant Café Georges at Centre Pompidou, offers great all round views of Paris with two different casual and elegant atmospheres.
High quality products are on the menu, with a highlight on fish (chef’s recommendation is silver cod, delicious!) and seafood products, lightly seasoned and surrounded by vegetables. If you are a meat lover -and reasonably hungry!- try the veal chop with morels.
For small bites after visiting an exhibition at Centre Pompidou, the menu features a choice of salads and snacks available from 12h to 19h.
Guest welcome is friendly although a bit confusing, as there are two different desks, one for terrace dining and the other one for interior dining. Since they don’t seem to communicate to one another, it creates a system which has you repeating your reservation details twice… Operationally speaking a quick fix : a blend of training, good will and perhaps an ounce of technology could surely help.
Once inside -that day was still a bit chilly for the terrace- the atmosphere is pleasant, and although most of the clients are foreign tourists, the waiters take time to explain dishes and answer questions about the wine list, with a smile.
Pricing is reasonable for that kind of establishment, with an average food & beverage check of € 70 per person (starters, main courses and a pleasant but not fancy bottle of Côtes du Rhone). One note though : some of the prices on their website are not updated… (another quick fix there :)) )
Decor is modern, elegant and clean, tableware is of high quality and decorative elements remind the Centre Beaubourg architecture, such as those huge airflow tubes.
If you are visiting Paris, or are entertaining visitors as I was on this occasion, Restaurant Café Georges is a great option for a first evening : centrally located, good food, friendly service, and of course the view is superb!
