Although Paris has around 15’000 restaurants, in my opinion few places offer such a combination of great quality food, an impressive wine selection, and to top it up all, genuinely friendly “feel at home” service.
Located a few steps away from Gare Montparnasse, le Petit Sommelier does!
Welcome, greeting, first impression : 10/10 . On a Tuesday night, without reservation, restaurant fully booked, the staff immediately did everything they could to accommodate us, found us a table in a couple of minutes. All this with a smile, without that “we-are-doing-you-a-favor” air which you can sometimes feel in certain establishments, when walking in a full house.
Two menus are on offer anytime -lunch and dinner-, so one can browse through both selections. In addition to that, a few specials completed the offer of the day.

A few moments after being seated, two generous slices of homemade foie gras with toasted fig bread were on the table, harmoniously complemented by a glass of house champagne.
The centrepiece of the menu is the meat cut section, which products are selected, aged and supplied by “Maison Metzger”, an institution in Paris : dry aged T-Bone, Aberdeen Angus beef, Charolais beef tartar amongst other delicacies.
If your preference is seafood, I highly recommend the scorpion fish or the Galician grilled octopus, beautifully matched with Corsican Vermentino wine.
Le Petit Sommelier is a mix between bistro and brasserie, featuring friendly, unobtrusive and informative service, high quality products and an extensive choice of wines.
The price range is interesting too, resulting form the fact that lunch and dinner menus are available : the result is an average check of around €25 to €30 per person for food.
One last note, the 77% cocoa chocolate tart is a must for dessert, and don’t hesitate to follow Le Petit Sommelier’s recommendation to pair it with a glass of Porto Colheita 2003! a real treat!!
A votre santé!
