It’s Friday and it’s time for a new post on Reflectionson…., which name should be changing soon, by the way… any suggestions please feel free!
Here I was, then, about 14 years old and getting ready for my first interview with the Admissions Director at the famous Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne…
A week or two before that I had to send them a tape (no mp3 or audio files in those days 🙂 ), to prove that I could speak a reasonable amount of English! But the most traumatic bit was that I had to put on a tie, for the first time in my life!!!
My father helped me out on that one, and that’s when I learned the famous “Half Windsor” technique…. years later I found out, with amazement, that there existed about a dozen other techniques!!!
So, here you go, the secret is right here :

Now, about the dotted world map, well, that’s something that must have made a rather big impression on me because I keep referring to it years and years later whenever I have to express what I am really passionate about….
The first thing I saw when I entered the school’s reception area, was a huge world map, made of plexiglas, and it had may red and green dots all over it… I soon realized the dots represented all the “Anciens”, as we call the alumni of Lausanne, spread out around the world! I stood there for a while and my mind went flying to all these far away and remote places… and that’s when I heard a voice inside my head telling me I wanted to, I had to live my life being a dot on the map!
Have a happy weekend and make sure to follow your dreams 🙂
